The Library of Congress and The History Rescue Team Support the Veterans History Project
The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000. The authorizing legislation (Public Law 106-380), sponsored by Representatives Ron Kind, Amo Houghton, and Steny Hoyer in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senators Max Cleland and Chuck Hagel in the U.S. Senate, received unanimous support and was signed into law by President William Jefferson Clinton on October 27, 2000.
The History Rescue Team is partnering with the Library of Congress to publicize this effort and help train interviewers to conduct these interviews.
As our veterans age, we are losing their stories at alarming rates. We are rescuing as many as we can, but our resources are limited and we need your help.

It is our goal to save every story possible. To date, we have absorbed all the costs associated with saving these stories. However, we must now turn to the community for assistance in capturing these important pieces of our American history and our American culture. With each passing day, thousands more stories are lost forever. Consider Leo Champagne. He claims to be the last surviving member of the Marine platoon which erected the original flag on Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima. How many more stories like Leo's will be lost, never to be recovered, with each passing day? Become A Story Saver - Click the Button Below Support those who have defended your freedoms. |
